Joy is a stark contrast from happiness. The Nelson’s Compact Bible Dictionary describes the word joy as, “a positive attitude or pleasant emotion; delight. Joy rises above circumstances and focuses on the character of God.(emphasis mine ). This kind of joy is distinct from mere happiness.”
Do you see how joy rises above our circumstances and turns our focus on the character of God? So, if we shift our focus on Him and who He is,we can have this unspeakable joy! Do you believe that God is faithful?
No matter what, you can find joy even while you are engulfed in a sea of circumstances. I have had mountains (plural) of circumstances in this life of mine. Previously, those circumstances would have my mind focused on the circumstances and the “what-if’s. My mind would be flooded with fear, doubt and worry. You and I can always look at what is wrong in our life, marriage or family. But what do we gain from that? Are our lives better off when we have fear, doubt or worry? Nope!
I have learned to find something to be joyful about. Please challenge yourself to find joy this day.
This prayer for you today is inspired by Romans 15:13. (remember, you can personalize any scripture!)
Heavenly Father, may you, the God of hope fill us each with all joy and peace as we trust in you, so that we may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. In Jesus name, amen.
