I hope all is well with you moms out there! Last week I briefly discussed my nursing journey of my older three. My first born son nursed until he was 14 months. The only reason he was weaned at 14 months was due to the fact that I was pregnant with my second son. I was apprehensive about nursing a toddler while carrying a baby. My second born nursed for about 6 months. At the time, I was a single mom. I returned to work right when he was 6 weeks old. While I knew how beneficial breastfeeding was, I lacked the resources needed and the encouragement to continue to nurse my baby. I pumped at work during my break but I did not produce enough on a daily basis. I failed to drink enough water during the day and I stressed about my milk supply being low. Eventually, I resulted in giving my baby formula. My daughter was nursed until she was exactly a year old. Why? Because that is what I thought was the norm. I thought back in 2010 that babies only drink from their mother until they turn one. Again, I didn’t have the resources and/or the encouragement to extend my breastfeeding journey.
No comparison here
I said all that to say that each breastfeeding journey you have with your baby will be different. With each baby, circumstances change. Be flexible, go with the flow ( no pun intended, lol), you don’t have to compare your breastfeeding journey with any other mom. We are all in this together.
One of the best resources out there for nursing moms or soon to be nursing moms is kelly mom.
