Do you find yourself with the desire to pray but the daily to-do list gets in the way? Are you in a place where you can’t find the time to sit down and pray? Maybe you’re like me where its on your mind to pray but as soon as you begin, something (or someone) keeps you from praying. Or, you try to squeeze in your prayer time soon after the kids have gone to bed but find that your bed is calling your name. I have had those moments where I go to sleep as I am praying.
Here is the truth, we have the same 24 hours like everyone else. We make time to handle our daily tasks as wives and mothers. We do it all each and everyday. But, the underlying question for you and I is, where does prayer time fit into our day to day schedule?
In order for us to be effective women, wives and mothers (and any other title we hold), we must be intentional about making prayer a priority.
Let’s look at the scripture passage found in Luke 10:38-42:
” As Jesus and his disciples continued on their way to Jerusalem, they came to a certain village where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. Her sister, Mary sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught. But Martha was distracted by the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, ” Lord, doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.” But the Lord said to her, ” My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.”
The enemy loves when God’s people are busy ( just like Martha). Sometimes, our busyness is just what the enemy ordered!
The enemy attempts to create hindrances that may serve as distractions or obstacles to keep us from spending time in prayer. Why? So we go through life blinded, lacking wisdom and guidance, hearing the His voice, surrendering and crying out to the Lord.
We forget to pray for ourselves, cover our husband and kids, I imagine him grinning from ear to ear.
We let days, weeks or months go by without prayer before the Lord.
But now that we know his tactics, we can counteract those hindrances by being intentional about praying to the Lord.
This week: Make time, write it down or put an alarm on your phone to pray.
